In the same vein as Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Scramble, and Bubsy, Air Zonk, Mega Man II is one of the earliest and best of the 2D platformer genres. This game was way ahead of its time, and it's great to see a 22-year-old game with no advertising (amidst the growing trend of games of this era with overt allusions to popular entertainment) become a classic.
Why did the original Double Dragon get a cult revival while the most recent game is one of the perennial favorites of gamers over the last 25-plus years? It's a combination of a handful of things that made the original so great in the first place and a lot of the same keep getting taken out of the game and replaced with something different.

One of the first games I ever bought for myself was this '90s NES classic that I still like to play from time to time (often out of nostalgia). Maniac Mansion was the first adventure game on the NES, and for a few years during the mid-90s, this was considered the best game to play. Not that it's just some kids'play.
I remember playing a bit of Game & Watch's games on the NES back in the day, and while they were cute, they were more in the mode of a one-off title rather than something I could see myself playing all the time (even back in my Game & Watch ness as a kid). As such, these aptly-titled ROMs that filled out the Super NES and Game Boy Color under their unified name, are now among my all-time favorite ROMs. They take Game & Watch's idea of game on the go and make it into a full-fledged title. d2c66b5586
