The album features Delaney and Bonnie's best-known touring band, including Eric Clapton, Jim Gordon, Carl Radle, Bobby Whitlock, and Dave Mason. Many of the players on this album went on to work with George Harrison on his post-Beatles debut album All Things Must Pass and with Clapton on his solo debut. The horn players Bobby Keys and Jim Price played on the albums Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main St. by the Rolling Stones, and join them for their 1972 STP Tour. Whitlock, Radle, and Gordon formed with Clapton his band Derek and the Dominos for Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.
The album has received highly positive reviews, with many critics suggesting the album is superior to Clapton's prior project (Blind Faith). In the Rolling Stone Album Guide, the album is described as "a triumph", which is attributed to the fact the band was "one of the best" in "rock and roll".[10] Writing for Rolling Stone, Mark Kemp said the album contained "wicked performances of the kind of country and boogie that would define Southern rock".[1] Mojo described the album as "one of the two Rosetta Stones of roots rock'n'roll".[11]
I've never managed to see this despite my decades-long interest in McGoohan's career and equal love of Richie Havens' music. It's interesting McGoohan got roped into a project like this given that a dozen years earlier, he played the Iago-surrogate character in a retelling of Othello set in the London jazz scene, All Night Long directed by Basil Dearden. That film was stunning; this one sounds like it might be at best an interesting curiosity for a fan like me.
Thank you Philip. I was fortunate enough to do promotion for WEA in Miami as it was Wexler and Dave benjamin who gave me the opportunity. I did an interview with Jerry on the old WBUS in Miami and was the highlight of my musical carrer.I stumbled on the site and it brought tears to my eyes and the Galkin piece was priceless.the days of Joe storming into Dunlap's office as only he could do and demanding he put Otis's new single on.And the best advice he could give any promo man "Remember kid if you don't ask, you don't get"Still alive and well in Miami and collecting old records.Bob Perry..
Priscilla Coolidge, who for two years running was voted the best female vocalist by Billboard Magazine, has truly carved out a deep niche in modern music. She has recorded with a Who's Who of music including Bob Dylan, Luther Vandross, Robbie Robertson and has penned tunes recorded by her sister Rita, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, and Maurice White of Earth, Wind and Fire. Never one to compromise, Priscilla recorded for A&M and Capricorn Records the music that reflected the deep spiritual nature of herself and her father, a minister of full-blooded Cherokee descent. She continues to write what many call some of the most beautiful music in the world today.
